Kindness Week

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School kicked off 2026 with a schoolwide Kindness Week, uniting King Eagles around the idea that kindness given to others is kindness given to ourselves.

Kindness Week began during the first week of school in January. On Monday, students learned how to be “bucket fillers,” practicing thoughtful and intentional acts of kindness that lifted others up.

On Tuesday, the entire school was connected through a growing Chain of Kindness, symbolizing how every kind act links us together.

Wednesday brought creativity as students designed Kindness Posters, which were entered into a schoolwide poster contest.

On Thursday, our Eagles took kindness beyond the classroom by serving the community. Students participated in on-site campus cleanups with younger students and off-site cleanups with older students. They also shared gratitude by writing thank-you cards to community partners, including Kaiser and the Richmond Fire Department.

The week concluded on Friday with a joyful wrap-up assembly that celebrated our collective efforts with awards, student council videos, and interactive group activities—putting a meaningful stamp on a week filled with kindness, connection, and pride.

Listen as the Student Council of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School describes how to be kind. This video was created by the King Student Council and Community School Director Javier Ochoa and was shown in the culminating assembly after a week full of activities:

Kindness Week Daily Activities
  • Monday- Being a Bucket Filler (Kind acts throughout the week were collected in our school's "bucket," and Bucket Filler Awards were given at the culminating assembly.)

  • Tuesday- Chain of Kindness ( All students wrote down examples of kindness that were connected in a giant paper chain.)

  • Wednesday- Kindness Posters (Students created their own Kindness Week posters for our poster contest. The winners were recognized at the assembly and are in the office for all to see.)

  • Thursday- Community Kindness (Students either picked up trash at the neighboring park and surrounding area, helped clean on campus, or wrote thank you cards to those who serve our community such as Kaiser and the Richmond Fire Department.)

  • Friday- Kindness Assembly (Students participated in interactive discussions to show what they had learned, viewed the video, and the awards were distributed.

A joyful way to end the week!)
